We recently collaborated with the team at Seven Billion Today to produce a short promotional video that summarises STWR's key campaign message for use on social media. The online advertisement brings to life our simple call for ordinary citizens to resurrect the United Nations founding vision for implementing basic socioeconomic rights worldwide.
As explicated in many of STWR's publications and online materials, this will require massive street demonstrations that continue incessantly on behalf of the least advantaged members of the human family, wherever they may live—both in our countries and far abroad. The time has come to forge a huge united public voice, one that has the potential to reorder global priorities and empower the United Nations to truly represent “we the people” of the world.
Please spread the video widely on your online networks, and lend your voice and support to the growing civil society movement for sharing the world's resources.
Our world produces more than enough food and resources for everyone
Yet at least 60% of families worldwide lack access to the basics for a dignified life
And every day, around 46,000 people die needlessly from extreme deprivation
But they are seldom mentioned on our television screens
And barely anyone talks about this affront to our common humanity
Ending poverty and hunger is a universal EMERGENCY
Which involves us all, and rests squarely upon all our shoulders
Did you know we can achieve this, if enough of us demand it in unison?
It is 70 years since the United Nations proclaimed the right of everyone to an adequate standard of living
Let’s together reclaim the United Nations founding vision
And call on governments to SHARE THE WORLD’S RESOURCES.
“Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.” — The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 25.1
